Santa Came!

Santa Came!
Originally uploaded by Mommy2StaufferBabies
It was so much fun with the Santa thing this year. Christmas Eve was filled with much anticipation and activity to get ready for Santa! We made snickerdoodles with Grandma Sue and put out reindeer food in front of our house so the reindeer would see our house from the air. ;) We taped Santa's Magic Key to the door of the house so that he could get in to leave our presents since we had to cap off our chimney this fall. :) Then we set out milk, cookies, and carrots on our special Santa cookie plate. We got into our brand new Christmas Eve Pajammies and off to bed they went.

In the morning we woke up to this! Both girls were absolutely thrilled, and Magdalena was thoroughly impressed to find Santa's Magic Key hanging on the tree. (Since he used it to get in then left it on the tree so we could find it.) All together a very fun filled evening!

A Gift for Baby Alex

A gift for a sweet sweet Mama who has had a very rough pregnancy and will be bringing her little boy into this world on Tuesday.

Yarn donated by another sweet Mama, Lamar. :-)
Mommy Made Pajammies

First set of Pajammies. Two more pairs of pants and one more shirt to go. She likes them a lot. I like that they are nice and roomy. The sleeves and pant legs do have a bit of growing room cause she seems to be on a length spurt recently. But her hands actually come out of the arms, she's holding them up for some silly reason.

I just finished up this sweater for Carmina. It's super cute and was relatively quick to knit. (Started Monday evening, worked a bit on Tuesday and finished up this morning.) I added a button to help close it.

It's also neat because if you flip it around, Magdalena can wear it "bolero" style. You can see pictures of that startig here:

This Book Could be Addicting...

I left the girls with Erich and took off to the library for a few minutes this evening. WOW. I forgot how wonderful it is to browse through the books without someone going through and ripping all the books off the shelf while the other one screams "MOOOOM! She's taking all the books OFF!"

Anyway, I picked up this book today and wow, I could knit a lot of the stuff in here! Economical and fast! I've already seen several things that I like and will probably be doing. The only problem is that my to do list is already so long with knitting for work and for pleasure! We're trying to scale back Christmas and do only hand made stuff, which I did a lot of last year. THIS year though I'm getting smart and mixing it up. I'm not just doing knit stuff because, while knit is incredibly beautiful, it takes longer. I've got a mix of sewing, knitting, and crocheting on my list. I should really nail down the list and stop looking at books though and just stick to the plan! Only 3 months you know!

She's three and a HALF

Magdalena is SO much fun. And so frustrating. Three is definitely challenging, but also so fun. I love watching her learn and piece things together and develop this little personality, even if that personality is a wee bit, um, like me. If you ask her how old she is she's "three and a HALF" don't forget the half part. ;)

She's going to start a tumbling class next week. She is so excited about it and asks every single day if it's time to go to her "mumbling" class. She LOVES dinosaurs. She can write the letter A. She's good at recognizing them. She loves to dig in the sand and build rivers (taught by Daddy!). She can ride a trike pretty darn well at this point and still loves Sesame Street.

Working on my own altered version of the larger than life bag. I'm gonna make it into a messenger style bag and make it a super diaper bag of my dreams! This would be my *2nd* crochet project btw.

Cakes

I've been busy. Trying to be productive around the house and be with the girls too. I just finished up my second wedding cake for the month. I'm really enjoying it and the bit of extra $$$ it brings in is very nice. You can see the cakes I've been doing here:

I hate the so called "experts"

This article irritates me. Especially the "slap on your wrist" tone in his writing as if he's looking down at me because I'm a so called "lazy" parent. But this paragraph really hits home:

"The fact is that children who co-sleep fail to learn how to put themselves to sleep, just as children who use pacifiers fail to learn how to comfort themselves. Problems of the very sort described by this nursing mother are typical when parents try to move a co-sleeping child into his or her own bed."

The fact is that my 3 year old moved herself out of our bed. *gasp* She chose to sleep in her own bed when given the choice to make for herself! She decided what was best for her, and she's never been back. Ever. Not one night has she ever begged me to sleep in our bed. And she puts herself to sleep. She can comfort herself! And she used a pacifier. So in my real life experience, I find his advice to be a bunch of bologna.

7.5 Months Old

I just sat down and updated Carmina's baby book. So I figured that I should post an entry on her. I can't believe that the first half of her first year is already gone. It seems like yesterday they were walking me into the OR and I said "no no no, I changed my mind." :-) She's an amazing little girl. She's starting to shriek a bit less and just smile. She can sit on the floor and entertain herself for a few minutes now and believe me, which has really improved my sanity and mood.

Magdalena and her seem to have a connection now and can actually engage in a form of play that both of them take part in, instead of Magdalena shoving stuff in front of her. Carmina definitely is showing us that she has a mind of her own and will protest loudly if Magdalena takes a toy away that she wasn't done with.

Her first tooth came in and I marked it down as January 25th, 2007. While it's cute, I'm going to miss gummy grins that will most definitely disappear in a few short weeks. She still nursing strong and has yet to experience her first solid culinary delight. We're hold off a few more weeks most likely.

She's still a petite, long baby. She has these amazing blue eyes that I can't get over. They have specks of gray, brown, and green in the middles much like my own Daddy's eyes. I'm told they still may change to brown, but I do feel like maybe they will stay like her Grampy Kevin's. My entire pregnancy with Carmina, I felt very close to my Daddy and had lots of dreams. Like Magdalena is my mom's special girl, I think Carmina would have had that extra special connection with my Daddy.

She's not yet crawling. I'm pretty darn sure she can do it, but chooses not to. She will stand next to things when you stand her up and give her something to hold on to. And I see her studying the way Magdalena moves and pulls up on things. Maybe she won't crawl at all? Who knows. She can however turn herself in a circle while laying on her belly, and she can even do that while sitting up.

Overall, she's a pretty cool kid. I'm glad we had her. :-P While I'm looking back at the last seven months and wondering how it could pass by so soon, I often sit and think about the amazing life she's going to lead and how much happiness she'll bring to the world. I already know she brings a lot of happiness to her Daddy and me.

Ouch.

I believe I have a clogged duct. How? I can't wrap my mind around how it's even possible to have a clogged duct when Carmina has been nursing non stop (on both sides!) for the last 24 hours or so. Seriously, she was up practically all night. I'm tired, worn out, and my breast hurts.

Updating

I updated the craft blog. Link can be found in my profile. :) I've been spending a majority of my time on knitting, so it only seems right that I start updating that and showing off my stuff.

New Looks

So I switched over to the *new* blogger. I'm trying to be better at updating this blog and also my craft blog as that is what occupies a lot of my free time. I'll probably get rid of the blogroll in favor of some google feed program that Erich pointed me towards. I use bloglines but some of my blogs don't work with it. So I'll be getting rid of the clutter of the blogroll as soon as I get some time online. Is everything else okay? Or do you think I should get rid of the flickr badge also?

Growing

The girls are growing. I'm getting smart at this Mom gig and scheduled their well baby checks together this month. Carmina had her 6 month check up and Magdalena had her 3 year checkup. THREE!

I can't believe it. This can't be the squawking baby that had so much trouble nursing a little over three years ago. If I had known that she would still be nursing three years later, I wouldn't believe it. So she did a lot of growing this year. She weighs 30 pounds even and is 36.5" tall. She grew 5.5" in one year. Really she grew that much in the last four or five months. Amazing. She's so verbal and funny. She's smart and is Mommy's little helper. She has so much compassion and loves dancing and singing and being silly. For as many challenging days that go by where I think that I really suck at this Mom gig, I must be doing something right because she is absolutely wonderful.

Carmina is a petite 14 pounds and 27" long. She's your typical six month old. She's trying with all her might to crawl and she can roll from back to tummy but chooses not to a lot of times in favor of screaming until her sister brings her what she wants. She's trying to cut her two front bottom teeth. She's babbling a lot now and Erich swears she says "dadadadada" heh. She's a lot of fun. Oh, and surprising to us, her eyes are still blue! They have bits of brown and green in the middle and they look *so* much like my Daddy's.
